In Your Corner: Resilience and mental wellbeing sessions
We were asked to bring our In-Your-Corner sessions to Elworth Hall Primary School in 2022.
These sessions are designed not just to teach the technical skills of boxing, but also to help children build resilience and improve their mental wellbeing.
Through a combination of physical activities and mindset/mindfulness coaching, the sessions aim to add a sense of confidence and self-belief that extends far beyond the session.
Non-contact boxing can be a powerful tool for personal growth, and we're proud that these sessions were so well received.
SENDCO at Elworth Hall Primary School, Miss Shenton said: "In your corner has been a great intervention to support pupils with SEMH needs in school. The programme is designed to focus on a different area each week e.g. resilience and the children were able to say what they had done linked to this. Our children loved the sessions, and it had a positive impact on their behaviour and relationships within school. The groups didn't want the sessions to end!
We have had a range of children working with Colin across KS2 with varying needs. Colin has ensured that each and every child has had their individual needs met. The sessions are fun and active but also focused on the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing"
Following the IYC Sessions, Elworth Hall have introduced after-school clubs for both key stage 1 & key stage 2 children
